A settlement holiday is a day when stock markets allow trading but pause the actual clearing and settlement of trades (transfer of funds/shares) because banks or depositories (like NSDL, CDSL) are closed, usually due to a bank holiday or festival, causing a one-day delay in transactions being fully completed. You can still buy and sell stocks, but the delivery of shares to your Demat account and funds to your bank account is postponed until the next working day.
