What are weekly and monthly options?

Options contracts come with different expiry periods, so you can choose the one that matches your trading plan.

Weekly Options:
These option contracts expire every week, usually on a fixed day. They are preferred for short-term strategies because they let you act quickly on market moves. These are generally found only in Index options (not in stock options).

Monthly Options:
These option contracts expire once a month and give you a longer window to play out your view on the market.

Expiry Days for Key Indices:

  • NIFTY weekly contracts: Expire every Tuesday
  • NIFTY monthly contracts: Expire on the last Tuesday of the month
  • BANKNIFTY, NIFTYNXT50, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY monthly contracts: Expire on the last Tuesday of the month
  • SENSEX weekly contracts: Expire every Thursday
  • SENSEX monthly contracts: Expire on the last Thursday of the month
  • BANKEX monthly contracts: Expire on the last Thursday of the month
