What is the difference between positions and holdings?

Holdings are the shares or investments you own and hold in your demat account, typically for the long term. Positions are open trades—such as intraday, F&O, or short-term trades—that are yet to be squared off or settled. Simply put, holdings show what you own, while positions show what you are currently trading. Understanding the difference helps you track long-term investments and active trades more clearly.
