Client Master List is the document provided by the depository, which contains all information pertaining to a demat account holder such as DP ID, name, contact details, address, bank linked with DP profile. It is useful in mapping the demat accounts with trading accounts and also for off-market transfer of shares. The transfer of shares can either be within depository, or inter depository. NSDL to NSDL (intra depository) or NSDL to CDSL (inter depository).
The CML includes essential information such as:
• Demat account number (DP ID and Client ID)
• Personal Information: Account Holders Name, DOB, Address, PAN
• Bank Account Details linked to the demat account
• Depository Details (NSDL/CDSL)
• Account Status
• Date of Account Opening and Closure (if applicable)
• Nominee information (if any)
Significance of CML:
• Facilitating transfer of shares between demat accounts
• Participating in buybacks or open offers
• Executing off-market transactions
• Facilitating the transmission of securities to legal heirs or nominees
• Verifying Status of demat account
