Share

Summary:

Gold and silver prices fell on October 23, 2026, as rising crude oil, dollar strength and interest-rate concerns pressured bullion. MCX silver dropped nearly ₹7,000 per kilogram, while gold declined around ₹1,500 per 10 grams during morning trading.

Gold and silver prices declined further on Friday, October 23, 2026, pressured by rising crude oil prices, a stronger US dollar and expectations of higher interest rates. Silver witnessed particularly heavy selling, falling nearly ₹7,000/kg in early MCX trading, while gold declined by approximately ₹1,500 per 10 grams. The continued correction pushed bullion prices towards multi-month lows amid growing concerns over global inflation and monetary policy.

Gold Price Today: Yellow Metal Falls to Multi-Month Low

Gold prices continued to weaken in domestic and international markets. December gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) slipped to around ₹1,41,885 per 10 grams at approximately 10 AM IST, down ₹1,424 or 0.99% from the previous close.

International spot gold declined to approximately $4,016 per ounce after touching its lowest level since July 20, 2026. The metal was heading for a weekly decline of around 3.5%, its steepest fall in more than four months.

The weakness came despite ongoing geopolitical tensions supporting demand for safe-haven assets. However, concerns about persistent inflation and the outlook for US monetary policy continued to weigh on bullion prices.

Silver has corrected significantly from its January 2026 highs. The decline reflects changes in investment demand alongside concerns about industrial consumption.

Unlike gold, silver has substantial industrial applications, including solar panels, electronics and electrical equipment. Consequently, weaker expectations for manufacturing and industrial activity can create additional selling pressure on the metal.

Why Are Gold and Silver Prices Dropping?

Several global developments are putting pressure on precious metals.

Rising crude oil prices: Brent crude has crossed $110 per barrel amid geopolitical tensions. Higher energy prices increase inflation risks and reduce expectations of interest-rate cuts, weighing on non-interest-bearing assets such as gold and silver.

US Federal Reserve policy: Markets are awaiting the Federal Reserve's October 27–28 policy meeting. Gold and silver, which do not generate interest income, have become less attractive as expectations of elevated US interest rates persist.

Stronger US dollar and bond yields: Rising US Treasury yields increase the opportunity cost of holding precious metals. A stronger dollar also makes dollar-denominated commodities more expensive for buyers using other currencies.

Industrial demand concerns: Silver faces additional pressure because of its extensive industrial applications. Weak manufacturing expectations can affect demand for silver more directly than gold, adding to price volatility.

What’s Next for Gold and Silver Prices?

The next movement in bullion prices will depend largely on crude oil prices, the US dollar, Treasury yields and upcoming US inflation data.

Falling prices may reduce purchasing costs for Indian consumers ahead of festive and wedding-season demand. However, retail jewellery prices can differ from MCX futures due to GST, making charges and local premiums.

The sharp fall in silver prices highlights the volatility of precious metals, despite their traditional role as stores of value. Investors tracking gold price today and silver price today will be watching whether global inflation concerns ease or continue to pressure bullion markets.
