BSE Limited (NSE: BSE) reported a 44.9% YoY growth in consolidated net profit for Q2FY27, driven by higher revenue from exchange operations and associated businesses. Revenue rose 34.1%, and operating profitability improved, even as revenue and net profit declined sequentially.
BSE Q2FY27 Results
The stock exchange registered a consolidated net profit of ₹809.15 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with ₹558.43 crore in Q2FY26.
Revenue from operations was ₹1,432.66 crore compared to ₹1,068.39 crore in the same quarter last year.
EBITDA grew nearly 42.4% YoY to ₹984 crore as against ₹690.9 crore a year ago.
Operating profit grew faster than revenue, as reflected in an EBITDA margin of approximately 68.7% compared with 64.7%.
However, the sequential performance of the company was weak.
Net profit fell 7.4% from ₹874.02 crore reported in Q1FY27 while revenue fell 8.5% from ₹1,566.02 crore.
The difference between annual and sequential performance is stark. The BSE had a strong growth compared to the previous year, but the last quarter saw some moderation from the June quarter.
What’s Fueling BSE’s Growth?
BSE’s revenue is derived from transaction charges, listing services, market data and other exchange-related operations.
Trading volumes, market participation and the mix of products traded on the exchange affect its financial performance.
Index options have been witnessing high trading volumes and equity derivatives have evolved into a significant segment of India’s exchange industry.
As transaction volumes grow, operating leverage can improve since much of an exchange’s technology and infrastructure spending does not scale linearly with every incremental trade.
This explains why BSE’s operating profit growth outpaced revenue growth in Q2FY27.
But exchange earnings are still subject to market turnover, changes in transaction pricing, regulatory measures and investor participation.
Even if the overall equity market is fairly stable, lower trading activity could impact revenue.
BSE Approves New Infrastructure at Mumbai
BSE’s board also approved a proposal to accept an offer from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority for a plot in Bandra Kurla Complex along with its quarterly results.
The land is to be used for the construction of further premises and infrastructure facilities.
The proposal is subject to documentation, applicable conditions and definitive agreements.
The company did not disclose the financial terms of the final deal.
BSE is also working on further technology infrastructure like expansion of its data center co-location capacity.
There are about 500 allocated racks and they are working to add some 170-190 more.
Such investments are relevant as exchanges need reliable technology systems, high transaction-processing capacity and business continuity arrangements.
Why Did BSE Stocks Surge Post Results?
BSE shares jumped about 4.1% to ₹3,750.20 in early trade on November 5 following the earnings announcement.
The move reflected buying interest after the company reported increased annual revenue, profit and operating margins.
But there is still a meaningful sequential drop in earnings as the results indicate.
The company is exposed to regulatory and technology risks, including changes in the rules governing derivatives trading, transaction volumes and cybersecurity requirements.
The future performance will be subject to participation in the market, the development of its trading platforms and diversification of revenue.
BSE’s Q2FY27 results are reflective of strong YoY earnings growth and operating leverage. The QoQ slowdown is indicative of exchange revenue being subject to trading conditions.
