Ola Electric Signs First Large-Scale MoU for Mahashakti Platform

Ola Electric has entered into its first strategic partnership for its upcoming Mahashakti energy storage system which is slated for launch on August 15, 2026. The energy storage system will focus on offering energy storage solutions at the commercial, industrial, and utility scales.

Under the MoU between the two firms, both of them will examine the feasibility of deploying as much as 20 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems until 2032. In addition to that, there are plans to raise the annual deployment to 5 GWh starting 2028.

In doing so, the strategic alliance has affirmed Ola Electric's business strategy in venturing into the utility-scale battery storage market.

Expansion into India’s Growing Energy Storage Market

Axis Energy is creating one of the largest portfolios of storage-enabling renewable energy projects in India. The grid approvals have been granted for more than 3,750 MW of projects in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan with an additional portfolio of around 3,500 MW.

The projects under development include Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE), hybrid, and other non-solar systems wherein the use of large batteries to integrate renewables into the grid will be an integral part.

According to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the requirement for battery energy storage will be in excess of 400 GWh by 2032 in India. This huge opportunity will be met by Ola Electric, through the assistance of Mahashakti, which will provide a vertical integration of the cell-to-system battery energy storage solution for renewable energy integration, industrial power, grid infrastructure, and data centers.

Why Ola Electric Stock Surged After the Announcement

With regard to the signing of the memorandum of understanding, there has been an increase of up to almost 8% in the stock value of Ola Electric, because joining the battery energy storage industry is considered a long-term growth area.

With the help of this agreement, the scope of the market for Ola Electric will be extended, so one may understand the extent to which the company strives to make use of its technological and manufacturing skills.

In view of the fact that the company uses an integrated approach in relation to cells, manufacturing and system engineering, some advantages will be attained by the firm in this regard.

Management Commentary on Energy Storage Expansion

Moreover, he added that “Axis Energy is the first-ever large-scale partner of Ola Electric’s Mahashakti program and this memorandum of understanding (MoU) is a huge validation of our capability,” and “the company has seen great interest from the side of industrial partners.”

As per Ravi Kumar Reddy Kataru, Chairman & Managing Director of Axis Energy Ventures, energy storage batteries are required to ensure round-the-clock power generation because of the growth of renewable energy sources.

Upcoming Quarterly Results and Stock Performance

Ola Electric has informed the stock exchanges that it plans to hold a Board meeting on August 7, 2026, to consider and approve the unaudited standalone and consolidated financials for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

The current price of the stock is below its 52-week high of ₹71.24 but above its 52-week low of ₹21.21. It is this recent MoU agreement between Ola Electric and Axis Energy that has set the path of its diversification into the energy storage ecosystem.
