On Thursday, August 7, Indian benchmark indices closed in the positive territory, showing a V-shape recovery of 225 points from day’s low, led by HDFC Bank.
At the closing bell, the Nifty 50 ended up by 21.95 points or 0.09%, at 24,596.15. The Sensex jumped by 79.27 points or 0.1% to 80,623.26, after news came in that the presidents of the US and Russia may meet soon. This helped reduce investor worries caused earlier when the US decided to double tariffs on Indian goods in response to India’s oil trade with Russia.
On the sectoral front, 9 out of 11 key sectoral indices ended in positive territory. Meanwhile, broader indices like Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 gained 0.33% and 0.17%, respectively.

The Nifty Media index rose by 0.99%, emerging as the leading sectoral performer. PVR Inox and Zee Entertainment emerged as top gainers among the Nifty Media index. On the flip side, the Nifty Energy index slipped 0.02% on Wednesday.

The key drivers of the index gains were:
- HDFC Bank: +12.42 points
- Hero MotoCorp: +6.77 points
- Larsen & Toubro: +4.47 points

The broader market indices ended on a Positive note. The Mid-cap 100 index ended higher by 0.33% and the Small-cap 100 index advanced by 0.17%.

As of August 7, 2025, the market breadth was slightly tilted toward declining stocks. Out of 3,062 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,424 advanced, 1,524 declined, and 84 remained unchanged.
