Jio Platforms IPO 2026: Issue Size, Dates, Price Band and Key Details
Share

Summary:

Jio Platforms' stock market listing has unlocked a separate valuation for Reliance Industries' telecom and digital business, highlighting its holding company discount. The listing improves valuation transparency, but Reliance shareholders' potential gains depend on subsidiary valuations, group debt and other business performance.

Jio Platforms Ltd (NSE: JPL, BSE: 545004) was listed on the stock market on October 28, 2026, giving Reliance Industries Ltd’s (NSE: RELIANCE, BSE: 500325) telecom and digital business a separate market valuation. The listing has brought focus on the discount at which the holding company is valued in Reliance and whether shareholders can benefit from the shares of Jio which is traded separately.

Jio Platforms IPO Price, Valuation, Share Price Performance

Jio Platforms raised nearly ₹30,188 crore through its IPO by selling 27 crore new equity shares at a price of ₹1,119 each.

The stock was listed at ₹1,358, a premium of 21.36% to the issue price. On November 3, the stock of Jio Platforms was trading at ₹1,437.40, a 28.45% premium to its IPO price.

It was the second largest listed company in India by market value with a market capitalization of about ₹13.24 lakh crore.

This valuation reflects the market’s assessment of Jio based on its public listing, not on previous private investment deals or estimated business valuations.

What is the discount on Reliance Industries holding company?

Reliance Industries’ shareholding in Jio Platforms went down to 64.4% from around 66.4% after the IPO, as it issued fresh shares.

Reliance's stake in Jio was valued at ₹8.53 lakh crore on November 3, based on the market capitalisation of Jio, before any discount for holding company.

A holding company discount is when investors believe that a parent company’s ownership of another company is worth less than the parent company’s market value.

For example, a notional 20% discount on the Reliance’s Jio stake will give an attributable value of ₹6.82 lakh crore as against ₹8.53 lakh crore.

Such discounts reflect subsidiary ownership, possible taxes, debt, and limitations on direct access to the subsidiary's cash flows.

A wider conglomerate discount. It comes into play when the total value of a diversified group is less than the sum of the estimated value of its individual businesses including retail, energy and telecom.

Why Reliance shares dropped despite strong Jio listing?

Shares of Reliance Industries fell 3.19% on October 28 to end at ₹1,158 as against the previous close of ₹1,196.20 with Jio listing at a premium.

However, Reliance recovered in later trade and closed at ₹1,307.90 on November 3.

Reliance’s share price will not rise automatically just because Jio is valued on its own. Investors need to account for the parent’s remaining business, debt, capex and profitability.

Jio reported operating revenue of ₹40,475 crore in Q2FY27, up 11.4%YoY and EBITDA of ₹21,879 crore, up 16.6%. Net profit grew 13.7% to ₹ 8,387 crore.

Reliance’s consolidated EBITDA for Q2FY27 rose 23.9% YoY to ₹62,409 crore.

Is Reliance Industries cheap because of Jio listing?

Jio listing helps in gaging market value of Reliance’s digital business. But the existence of an observable valuation for a subsidiary does not imply that the parent is undervalued.

The gap between Reliance’s market capitalization and the combined value of its businesses needs to be adjusted for group debt, minority shareholding and holding company costs.

But existing Reliance shareholders don’t automatically get shares in Jio as part of the IPO. They still own shares in Reliance, but direct ownership of Jio is a separate investment.

The holding company discount may be impacted by future dividends from Jio, changes in its market valuation and the performance of Reliance’s other businesses.

Thus, Jio's listing has improved valuation transparency, but Reliance shareholders will only see financial benefit depending on how the market values other assets and future earnings of the group.
