Post Market Update Today Dec 30 : Nifty, Sensex Ends Flat; Metal Index Shines While Realty Index Extends Losses

At the closing bell, the Nifty 50 closed lower by 3.25 points, or 0.01%, at 25,938.85, while the Sensex slipped 20.46 points, or 0.02%, to settle at 84,675.08. However, Bank Nifty outperformed by advancing 0.41% and closing above the level of 59,000. 

Indian equity benchmarks Nifty 50 and Sensex slipped amid broad-based profit booking in thin year-end trading, as concerns over continued foreign fund outflows weighed on sentiment. The Nifty has declined nearly 0.9% over the last three sessions, while the Sensex is down over 1% over the previous four sessions. Realty and IT stocks also weakened, declining 0.74% and 0.84%. 

Stock-Specific Highlights

Among individual stocks,

• Honasa Consumer share price gained 5.18% after the promoter raised stake.
• Shriram Finance share price gained 2.5% on CARE Ratings upgrade post-MUFG deal announcement.

Nifty Metal - Top Gainer

On the sectoral front, 5 out of all 11 sectoral indices closed in positive territory. The Nifty Metal index emerged as the top-gaining sector with gains of 2.03%. Additionally, the Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Auto index advanced over 1%. On the other hand, the Nifty Realty index fell sharply by 0.84%, extending the losing streak for the 3rd session. 

Broader Markets End Negative

On Friday, the broader market indices underperformed the frontline gauge. The Nifty Midcap 100 index closed down 0.15%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 slipped 0.28%. 

Nifty 50: Top Pullers and Draggers of the Day

The key drivers of the index gains were:

• Mahindra & Mahindra: +13.20 points
• HDFC Bank: +11.06 points
• Bharti Airtel: +10.64 points

On the other hand, these stocks dragged the index:

• Infosys: -16.75 points
• Eternal Limited: -9.55 points
• Reliance Industries: -6.83 points

Market Breadth

As of December 30, 2025, market breadth was in favour of declining stocks. Out of 3,244 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,410 advanced, 1,723 declined, and 111 remained unchanged. 

A total of 49 stocks touched their 52-week highs, while 149 hit their 52-week lows. Additionally, 72 stocks were locked in their upper circuits, whereas 58 stocks were in lower circuits.
