Share

Summary:

Sterlite Technologies shares hit the 5% lower circuit, extending their three-day decline to around 9%, despite record Q2FY27 earnings. Investors are assessing valuation concerns, a one-off tariff refund, order execution and growth prospects in AI infrastructure.

Shares of Sterlite Technologies Ltd (NSE: STLTECH) fell sharply on Friday, October 30, 2026, hitting the 5% lower circuit and extending their loss to three straight sessions. The stock dropped to about ₹824.50 on the NSE, taking its cumulative losses to about 9% over three sessions. This correction comes despite the company reporting record Q2FY27 earnings and securing significant contracts in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

Sterlite Technologies Share Price Today: What is pulling the Stock price down?

Sterlite Technologies shares fell 5% to ₹824.50 on Friday compared to its previous closing price of ₹867.85. On October 28, the stock was down 3.46%, and on October 29 it fell another 1.31%.

There appear to be three big things behind the decline.

1. Profit Booking After Sharp Rally: The stock had rallied around 55% in three months and 179% in six months. Such a steep rise has been greeted by selling pressure as investors take profits.

2. Valuation and Growth Expectations: The company's strong rally has boosted expectations for future revenue, margins, and large order execution. The sharp rise in its share price means it will be important to sustain earnings growth.

3. Sluggishness in AI-Linked Stocks: The recent turbulence in global technology and AI-related stocks has also impacted sentiment toward companies providing digital infrastructure and connectivity products.

Sterlite Technologies Q2FY27 Results: Profit Soars

The price correction is interestingly after the company’s strongest quarterly financial performance.

Sterlite Technologies reported revenue of ₹2,529 crore for Q2FY27, around 145% higher on a YoY basis as compared to ₹1,034 crore. EBITDA increased to ₹846 crore from ₹141 crore and profit after tax (PAT) was ₹517 crore versus ₹4 crore in Q2FY26.

Financial MetricQ2FY27Q2FY26
Revenue₹2,529 crore₹1,034 crore
EBITDA₹846 crore₹141 crore
PAT₹517 crore₹4 crore

However, the EBITDA included a one-off net gain of ₹161 crore from a US tariff refund. Excluding the benefit, EBITDA would have been ₹685 crore, suggesting that part of the improvement in reported earnings was due to a non-recurring item.

Business visibility comes from order book of ₹35,274 crore

Sterlite Technologies had a record open order book of ₹35,274 crore as of September 30, 2026, driven by demand for its optical fiber and connectivity products used in AI data centers.

Major orders in H1FY27 included a multi-year hyperscaler agreement of $1.2 bn (~₹11,500 crore), a product award letter of $1.11 bn (~₹10,500 crore) and a contract for high-density optical fiber cables of $288 mn (~₹2,700 crore).

The company also delivered a net debt-free balance sheet in the quarter.

What is in store for Sterlite Technologies stock?

Sterlite Tech shares continue to be volatile despite strong earnings, after their massive rally in 2026. The stock had touched a 52-week high of over ₹1,050 in early October before a sharp correction.

Large contracts will need to be delivered and operating margins and demand from AI data centers and telecom operators will need to be sustainable for future performance.

The recent decline underscores the disconnect that can occur between strong financial results and share price movements when market expectations are already high.
