Summary:
Anthropic’s reported IPO filing highlights rapid AI-driven revenue growth, with first-half 2026 revenue reaching $16.29 billion. However, a large non-cash fair-value adjustment contributed to an $80.75 billion net loss, raising questions about valuation, infrastructure spending and long-term profitability.
Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has filed for its initial public offering (IPO) in the US with some eye-popping figures of revenue growth and losses. The creator of the Claude AI chatbot reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, with its net loss widening to $80.7 billion. The filing, made on October 26, 2026, could pave the way for one of the largest IPOs in stock market history.
Anthropic IPO: What's Been Announced?
Anthropic filed its Form S-1 registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an intended listing of Class A shares on Nasdaq under ticker ANT.
The company has not revealed its IPO price band, final issue size or number of shares being offered. According to market reports, the valuation could be between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion with fundraising of an estimated $100 billion.
But these are early numbers, and the precise terms of the offering have yet to be decided.
Revenue Up 14-Fold, but Losses Still Large
Anthropic’s financial filings show just how rapidly demand for artificial intelligence has grown in businesses.
Revenue increased to $16.29 billion from $1.16 billion in January-June 2026, or up ~14x year-over-year.
But its reported net loss widened due to accounting changes related to its convertible financing instruments, even as its operating loss narrowed considerably.
Important financial highlights:
| Financial Metric | H1 2026 |
| Revenue | $16.29 billion |
| Revenue growth | ~1,300% year-over-year |
| Operating loss | $693 million |
| Net loss | $80.75 billion |
| Convertible financing fair-value charge | $72.39 billion |
| Cash and short-term investments | $131.7 billion |
The $72.39 billion adjustment is mostly non-cash, meaning the headline net loss does not represent an equivalent cash outflow from normal operations.
However, operating expenditure was still significant at approximately $16.98 billion, of which $8.95 billion was for computing infrastructure.
Why Did AI Stocks Soar After the IPO Filing?
Anthropic is privately held, so its shares are not yet available for regular trading on the stock market.
But the announcement of its IPO bolstered sentiment across US artificial intelligence and semiconductor stocks on October 26.
US Stocks: October 26, 2026
Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) shares were up 2.39% and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) shares gained 2.80%. Shares of Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) were up 2.98%.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 2.82%, as investors showed renewed interest in firms that make the hardware used to develop artificial intelligence.
The Nasdaq Composite also climbed 0.83%. Anthropic’s filing boosted sentiment but trading was also influenced by expectations for broader technology earnings.
Growing Financial Risks of AI Expansion
Founded in 2021, Anthropic builds AI models for coding, research, enterprise automation and other business applications, using its own AI model, called Claude.
It has built its business on enterprise adoption and partnerships with the major cloud infrastructure providers.
As of September 2026, there were more than 11,900 customers with at least $100,000 in annual spend and about 250 customers with more than $10 million in spend each.
But even with this growth, the company has significant spending requirements in computing infrastructure, model development and data centers.
Other risks outlined in its prospectus include customer concentration, dependence on technology partners, competition and potential AI safety issues.
What’s Coming Up?
The proposed listing of Anthropic could be a major test of investor demand for standalone AI businesses.
The company has shown stellar revenue growth but its future financial performance will depend on managing infrastructure costs and converting growing sales into sustainable profits.
Final valuation and listing date still to be confirmed, as well as IPO price. The next disclosures will show the scope of the offer and will give more insight into its financial position.
