Summary:

Hero Motors IPO was fully subscribed on Day 1, receiving bids for 12.26 crore shares against 8.86 crore shares offered. Retail investors led demand with 2.23 times subscription, while NII participation reached 1.25 times and QIB demand remained limited.

The initial public offering (IPO) of auto components manufacturer Hero Motors Ltd received a strong response from investors, with the issue getting fully subscribed on the first day of bidding. The ₹1,000 crore IPO received bids for 12.26 crore shares against the 8.86 crore shares offered, according to exchange data.

The demand was mainly supported by retail investors, while participation from different investor categories remained varied. The retail portion was subscribed 2.23 times, whereas the non-institutional investor category received 1.25 times subscription. The qualified institutional buyer (QIB) portion witnessed limited participation on the opening day.

Hero Motors had already received interest from institutional investors before the public issue opened. The company raised nearly ₹300 crore through its anchor book by allotting 3.57 crore equity shares at ₹84 per share, which was the upper end of the IPO price band.

IPO Structure And Key Details

The company has fixed the IPO price band at ₹79 to ₹84 per equity share. The issue consists of a fresh issue of shares worth up to ₹600 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of shares worth up to ₹400 crore.

Under the OFS component, promoters will sell a part of their holdings, allowing existing shareholders to partially exit through the public offering. The fresh issue proceeds will be used towards business requirements, including repayment or reduction of borrowings and capacity expansion plans.

Hero Motors plans to utilise ₹190 crore from the fresh issue proceeds for repayment or prepayment of certain outstanding borrowings. Another ₹200 crore is earmarked for purchasing equipment required for expansion at its Gautam Buddha Nagar facility in Uttar Pradesh.

Why Investors Are Showing Interest In Hero Motors IPO?

Hero Motors operates in the automotive components segment and supplies products to global customers, including BMW and Ducati. The company’s association with established automobile manufacturers has been one of the factors attracting investor attention.

The broader automobile sector has witnessed increased focus on localisation, electric vehicle components and advanced manufacturing capabilities. Companies operating in the auto component ecosystem are being evaluated on their ability to benefit from changing industry requirements and rising demand for technology-driven solutions.

The IPO response also comes at a time when the primary market has seen continued investor participation, with retail investors actively participating in new share offerings.

Why Did Hero Motors IPO Gain Momentum?

The strong subscription response reflects demand from investors looking at the company’s business profile, automotive sector exposure and planned utilisation of IPO funds. Retail participation remained the key driver behind the first-day subscription numbers.

However, subscription numbers alone do not determine long-term performance after listing. Factors such as revenue growth, profitability, debt levels, industry conditions and future business execution will remain important for evaluating the company after it becomes publicly traded.

What Investors Should Watch Ahead

Hero Motors IPO will remain open for subscription during the issue period, after which the allotment process and listing schedule will follow. The company’s market performance after listing will depend on investor expectations, broader market conditions and its ability to deliver on expansion plans.

With the issue receiving full subscription on the opening day, Hero Motors has marked a positive start to its public market debut. The next focus will shift towards final subscription figures, allotment and the company’s performance as a listed entity.
