The Indian stock market traded in a narrow range on July 21 as investors remained cautious amid continued US-Iran tensions, which impacted global risk sentiment. At 10:00 AM, the Nifty 50 declined 6.10 points or 0.03% to 24,232.40, while the Sensex fell 88.43 points or 0.11% to 77,620.09.
Among the Nifty 50 stocks, Infosys, HDFC Bank and Max Healthcare Institute were among the top losers. However, broader markets remained resilient, with the Nifty MidCap index gaining 0.09% and the Nifty SmallCap index rising 0.26%. Sector-wise, the Nifty Cement index outperformed with a 1% gain, while the Nifty IT and Nifty Auto indices remained under pressure.
Karur Vysya Bank Share Price Surges 11% After Strong Q1FY27 Performance
Karur Vysya Bank emerged as one of the top gainers in the Nifty 500 index, with its share price rising up to 11% on July 21. The stock witnessed strong trading activity, with NSE volume increasing to 3.8 crore shares compared with the 30-day average volume of 30 lakh shares.
Karur Vysya Bank is a private sector bank offering retail banking, corporate banking, loans, deposits and digital financial solutions. The stock gained momentum after the bank reported strong Q1FY27 results.
As of June 30, 2026, the bank’s total business increased 15.9% year-on-year to ₹2.27 lakh crore. Advances grew 17% to ₹1.04 lakh crore, while deposits increased 15% to ₹1.22 lakh crore.
The bank’s net interest margin improved by 40 basis points to 4.26%, reflecting improved profitability. Asset quality also strengthened, with gross non-performing assets declining by 10 basis points to 0.74%, while net non-performing assets remained stable at 0.19%.
Karur Vysya Bank reported a 45% year-on-year rise in net profit to ₹756 crore. Return on Assets improved by 38 basis points to 2.11%, supporting positive investor sentiment.
Canara HSBC Share Price Jumps 10% on Strong Q1FY27 Results
Canara HSBC, the life insurance subsidiary of Canara Bank, gained 10% on July 21 and was among the major gainers in the Nifty 500 index. The stock recorded heavy trading activity, with NSE volume rising to 2.3 crore shares against the 30-day average volume of 17.22 lakh shares.
The company offers protection, savings, retirement and investment-linked insurance products. The stock rallied after Canara HSBC reported strong Q1FY27 performance.
Annualised Premium Equivalent (APE) increased 18.8% year-on-year to ₹585 crore. ULIPs contributed the highest share at 36%, followed by Non-Par Savings at 26%, Annuity at 14%, Non-Par Protection at 13% and Par products at 10%.
Total premium increased 23.7% to ₹2,161 crore, supported by a 25.2% growth in new business premium. Assets Under Management rose 13.8% to ₹49,683 crore, while net profit increased 20.2% to ₹28 crore.
Gujarat Fluorochemicals Gains 6% After Investor Interest
Gujarat Fluorochemicals gained 6% on July 21 amid strong investor interest. The stock recorded a volume of 2.84 lakh shares compared with the 30-day average volume of 1.28 lakh shares.
The company operates in fluoropolymers, specialty chemicals, advanced materials, battery chemicals and fluorochemicals. The stock gained after investors and analysts visited its Battery Chemical Plant at Dahej on July 16 and July 17, 2026.
TARIL, Gallantt Ispat and CarTrade Tech Among Top Losers
Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) declined 4.51% to ₹318.55 and emerged among the top losers. The stock recorded a volume of 31.51 lakh shares with a value turnover of ₹100.38 crore. TARIL manufactures power transformers, reactors and electrical equipment used in transmission and distribution networks. The decline was driven by selling pressure amid concerns over near-term growth expectations and execution.
Gallantt Ispat shares fell 3.99% to ₹595.40, with a trading volume of 2.22 lakh shares. The integrated steel manufacturer produces billets, TMT bars, structural steel and other steel products. The decline was mainly due to short-term selling pressure and negative investor sentiment.
CarTrade Tech shares declined 3.30% to ₹2,664.50, with a volume of 1.40 lakh shares and turnover of ₹37.86 crore. The stock movement was influenced by profit booking after recent gains, with no major company-specific negative development reported.
Overall, Karur Vysya Bank and Canara HSBC led the gainers’ list following strong Q1FY27 earnings, while TARIL, Gallantt Ispat and CarTrade Tech faced selling pressure amid market volatility.
