Share

Summary:

Bharti Airtel has increased postpaid tariffs by 3–11% from October 8, 2026, raising the entry-level monthly plan to ₹499. The revision also introduces complimentary international roaming benefits and could support ARPU growth, subject to customer retention.

What are the new Airtel postpaid plan prices from October 8, 2026?

Bharti Airtel has increased its postpaid mobile tariffs by 3-11%, effective October 8, 2026, marking its first major postpaid price revision in over two years. The move raises monthly rentals by ₹50 across most plans and comes ahead of the anticipated initial public offering (IPO) of Reliance Jio Platforms.

Airtel Revises Postpaid Plans, Adds Roaming Benefits

Airtel's revised postpaid plans start at ₹499 per month, compared with ₹449 earlier, representing an increase of approximately 11.1%. Higher-priced family plans have also become costlier, although their percentage increases are relatively smaller.

The revised monthly tariffs are as follows:

Postpaid planEarlierRevised
Individual₹449₹499
Family (2 SIMs)₹699₹749
Family (3 SIMs)₹999₹1,049
Family (4 SIMs)₹1,199₹1,249
Family (5 SIMs)₹1,749₹1,799

Alongside the increase, Airtel has introduced one complimentary international roaming trip per SIM annually. The five-day package includes 5GB data, 60 minutes of calls, 25 outgoing SMS and free incoming SMS. Existing benefits, including entertainment subscriptions, unlimited calling and enhanced 5G services, continue under the revised plans.

Why the Tariff Increase Matters for Telecom Companies

India's telecom industry has increasingly focused on improving average revenue per user (ARPU), a key measure of monthly revenue generated from each subscriber.

The latest increase follows the broader industry tariff revision of June 2024. Higher tariffs can support revenue growth without requiring a proportional increase in subscribers, provided customer retention remains stable.

Airtel's move also comes as competition intensifies across premium mobile services, including 5G connectivity, bundled digital subscriptions and family plans.

For comparison, Q1FY27 ARPU figures show:

Airtel's higher ARPU reflects its customer mix and premium service offerings. However, the latest tariff increase is limited to postpaid customers, meaning its effect on company-wide ARPU will depend on the contribution of this segment.

Airtel's Q1FY27 Financial Performance Shows Growth

Airtel reported strong financial performance during the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

Consolidated revenue increased 18.4% YoY to ₹58,539 crore, while net profit rose 37.3% to ₹8,167 crore.

Consolidated EBITDA stood at ₹33,599 crore, with an EBITDA margin of 57.4%.

India revenue increased 9.7% YoY to ₹41,214 crore, supported by subscriber additions and higher revenue from existing customers.

The company's postpaid subscriber base reached 30 mn, following additions of approximately 1 mn during Q1FY27.

Will Higher Tariffs Boost Airtel's Revenue?

Postpaid customers account for a relatively small portion of Airtel's overall subscriber base. Consequently, the ₹50 monthly increase may provide incremental revenue benefits rather than a substantial immediate improvement in blended ARPU.

The financial impact will depend on customer retention, migration between plans and the cost of additional bundled benefits.

The revision also puts attention on whether Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea introduce similar pricing changes.

For now, Airtel's latest tariff adjustment reflects the industry's continuing emphasis on premium services and revenue per subscriber. Its contribution to earnings will become clearer in subsequent quarterly results.
