Muthoot FinCorp prepares for ₹3,000 crore IPO after strong earnings growth

India-based financial services firm, Muthoot FinCorp Ltd, has filed its draft prospectus to go for an initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹3,000 crore ($314.59 million) in the Mumbai market.

IPO to Be Pure Fresh Issue

The upcoming IPO of Muthoot FinCorp will comprise only a fresh issuance of shares, without any offer-for-sale component. Additionally, the company may consider undertaking a pre-IPO placement of up to ₹600 crore. In case, the pre-IPO placement is successfully completed, the size of fresh issuance will get adjusted.

Out of total net proceeds from the issuance, 50% will be allocated to qualified institutional buyers, while at least 15% will be kept aside for high-net-worth individuals, along with at least 35% for retail investors.

Capital to Boost Tier I Capital Base

The firm is planning to utilize the IPO proceeds to build its Tier I capital position, which will enable the company in meeting its future borrowing requirements and expansion.

The IPO funds will also be deployed towards the development of its digital platform, along with utilization of a part of the proceeds to meet issue-related expenses.

This capital boost is expected to enable the firm to get additional financial flexibility to extend its lending business operations, owing to growing demand for secured loans.

Gold Loans Continue as Mainstay Business

Muthoot FinCorp mainly engages in gold financing, operating as a non-banking financial company. Apart from gold loans, it also provides business loans, housing loans, supply chain finance, and loans against property.

It operates over 3,800 branches across the country, thereby having a fairly large physical distribution network. Further, by operating in multiple lending categories, it can diversify away from its core gold loan business.

The filing for IPO comes after a good earnings result from the fiscal year that ended on March 31. Muthoot FinCorp has posted more than a threefold increase in its net profit during the year, along with 31.8% rise in total revenue from operations.
