Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL), incorporated on April 16, 1979, manufactures newsprint and printing & writing paper using bagasse as the primary raw material. Commercial operations began in October 1985 with an initial capacity of 90,000 TPA (50,000 TPA newsprint, 40,000 TPA printing & writing paper), subsequently expanded to 4,00,000 TPA. In 2016, TNPL commissioned a packaging board plant with a 2,00,000 MT annual capacity at Mondipatti, increasing total capacity to 6,00,000 TPA. The pulping capacity grew from 300 TPD in 1984 to 1,580 TPD. In 2013, TNPL established a cement plant at Kagithapuram, which uses lime sludge and fly ash from operations to produce high-grade cement, making TNPL the only paper company with an integrated cement plant.
The company produces a diverse range of surface-sized and non-surface-sized writing and printing papers, office copier grades, and multi-layer coated and uncoated paper boards suited for FMCG, personal care, and industrial packaging. Its brand portfolio includes TNPL Elegant Printing, TNPL Ace Marvel, TNPL Eco Maplitho, TNPL Copier, and specialty boards such as Aura Fold Premium and Aura Fold Plus.
TNPL’s manufacturing units include Unit I (Paper and LSFM) at Kagithapuram, Karur District, and Unit II (Board) at Mondipatti Village, Tiruchirappalli District, Tamil Nadu. Registered office is in Chennai. The company serves Indian and international markets and has no subsidiaries, associates, or joint ventures.
