Jio Platforms IPO: The largest raise with the smallest stake on offer
Share

At the IPO price, 1% of Jio is valued at about ₹10,300 crore. That's about half the size of LIC's IPO.

Jio Platforms is listed on 28 October 2026 at ₹1,358, a 21.36% premium to its ₹1,119 issue price.

The headline offer value was ₹30,213 crore at the issue price, before employee discounts and expenses. Despite being India’s largest IPO, with 27 crore new shares on offer, it comprised only 2.9% of the company after the issue.

At a listing price of ₹1,358, these shares were worth about ₹12.5 lakh crore, making Jio India’s second-most valuable listed company.

Hyundai Motor Company’s and LIC’s IPOs each held the record and offered a larger slice of the overall pie:

→ Hyundai Motor India, October 2024: ₹27,870 crore headline, an offer for sale of about 17.5% of the company

→ LIC, May 2022: about ₹21,000 crore headline, an offer for sale of about 3.5% of the company

→ Jio Platforms, October 2026: ₹30,213 crore headline, a fresh issue of about 2.9% of the company.

Jio’s raise is the largest of the three, yet its slice is the smallest.
At the issue price, 2.9% of Jio came to roughly ₹30,000 crore, and at the ₹1,358 listing price, the same 2.9% was worth about ₹36,700 crore.

The raise is large because Jio’s valuation is large, not because much of Jio is on offer.

Which matters more to you: the size of the raise or the size of the slice?
