Comparison of bank FD interest rates in August 2026

DCB Bank offers the highest FD rate of up to 7.50% for regular depositors in August 2026. YES Bank, RBL Bank, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank and City Union Bank also offer rates of 7% or more on select tenures. Rates vary by bank and tenure, so investors should also consider liquidity, premature withdrawal rules and deposit insurance. DICGC insurance covers eligible bank deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank.

Investors are still drawn towards fixed deposits in banks due to their good returns. The Reserve Bank of India has kept the repo rate stable at 5.25%. However, there is wide variation in terms of interest offered on deposits in banks as well as in different maturities of deposits. As per the data from the Reserve Bank of India, the term deposit rate of the banking sector stands at 6%-6.75% for more than one year.

Which Banks Are Offering the Highest FD Rates?

While for amounts up to ₹1 Crore in the above comparison DCB Bank is seen offering interest rates of up to 7.50%, YES Bank offers up to 7.25% and RBL Bank offers up to 7.20%. Similarly, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank and Dhanlaxmi Bank offer interest rates of up to 7.25% on certain maturities.

Other banks which offer interest rates of 7% or more include Jammu & Kashmir Bank up to 7.05%, IndusInd Bank up to 7%, Karur Vysya Bank up to 7.20% and City Union Bank up to 7.25%. On the other hand, the maximum interest rate offered by Federal Bank is 6.70%, while Axis Bank offers rates of up to 6.50%.

Among the larger private banks, the interest rates are comparatively low. While HDFC Bank offers interest rates between 6.25%-6.45% for most of the one-to-two-year bucket and 6.40%-6.50% for three-to-five years deposits, ICICI Bank offers interest rates of up to 6.50%. Kotak Mahindra Bank offers interest rates of up to 6.80% for some two-to-three-year deposits.

Among public sector banks in the comparison, Canara Bank offers up to 6.60%, while Indian Overseas Bank reaches 6.60% for certain one-to-two-year maturities.

DCB Bank Revises FD Rates in August

The FD rates of DCB Bank were modified with effect from August 4, 2026 and now offer regular depositors interest rates between 3.75% to 7.50%. This interest rate of 7.50% is offered on selected maturities. An 8% interest can be earned by senior citizens while those aged 70 years and above can earn 8.05% on selected tenures.

Union Bank of India and Indian Bank have also modified their deposit rates in the month of August. Union Bank’s FD interest rates now vary between 2.70% to 6.55%.

Higher Rate Does Not Automatically Mean Better FD

In addition to considering the headline interest rate, it is equally important for investors to consider the duration period, premature withdrawal terms, and conditions, liquidity demands and other terms and conditions of banks. It is equally important for depositors to be aware that under DICGC deposit insurance, a deposit in a bank is insured up to ₹5 lakh.
