Summary:
ESDS Software shares surged 235% in four trading sessions after listing, driven by strong investor interest in AI and data-centre infrastructure. The stock debuted at a 76% premium and hit its fourth consecutive upper circuit, reaching ₹1,438.85.
ESDS Software Solutions has emerged as one of the market's strongest recent performers, with its shares surging 235% in just four trading sessions following its stock-market debut. The sharp rally has been driven by strong investor interest in India's expanding data-centre and artificial intelligence infrastructure theme, along with expectations of higher earnings following a major AI infrastructure contract.
The stock, which was offered to investors at an IPO price of ₹429 per share, debuted on the NSE on September 4 at ₹757, representing a 76% premium to the issue price. On Wednesday, the stock hit its fourth consecutive upper circuit, rising 10% to ₹1,438.85 on the NSE.
Why Did ESDS Software Stock Surge After the IPO?
The sharp post-listing rally reflects growing investor interest in India's cloud, data-centre and AI infrastructure opportunity. ESDS Software Solutions has also attracted attention after securing a $1.25 billion AI infrastructure contract with Sharon AI, which has significantly strengthened expectations around the company's future earnings.
India's cloud GPU market is estimated to grow at nearly 50% annually through FY30. At the same time, India's operational data-centre capacity is expected to increase to nearly 4 GW by 2030 from around 1.5-1.7 GW in 2025, as cloud adoption and AI workloads continue to increase.
The company's management also highlighted the potential scale of the opportunity. Piyush Somani, Chairman and Managing Director of ESDS Software Solutions, said India could realistically bring 30-40 GW of new data-centre power online over the next 10 years. This compares with an installed base of roughly 1,545 MW today.
Limited Float Amplifies Buying Pressure
The structure of ESDS's ₹720 crore IPO has also contributed to the sharp price movement. The issue consisted of 1.678 crore fresh shares priced at ₹429 each and did not include any offer-for-sale component. Following the issue, the non-promoter holding stood at about 59.4%.
Trading activity has been unusually strong. Around 15.8 million shares changed hands on the NSE on the listing day, followed by another 12.8 million shares on September 8. The latter was equivalent to roughly 11% of the company's post-IPO shares. On the BSE, 443,000 shares were marked for delivery that day.
The combination of strong demand and a relatively limited freely tradable pool has amplified the stock's rapid four-session advance.
India's Data-Centre Expansion Supports the Theme
The broader industry outlook is also supporting investor interest. NITI Aayog's latest technology-services roadmap estimates India's data-centre capacity at around 1.4 GW currently and projects an additional 6-7 GW over the next decade, while highlighting the need for more GPU-enabled facilities as AI workloads expand.
EY India has described AI as transforming data centres from enabling infrastructure into strategic infrastructure, with rising computing requirements increasing pressure on power, land and connectivity.
