The Depository Trust Company (DTC) is the primary central securities depository (CSD) in the United States, providing safekeeping, settlement, and asset servicing for virtually all US-listed equities, corporate bonds, municipal bonds, and other securities. Established in 1973, DTC holds securities in electronic (book-entry) form on behalf of its participants — which include broker-dealers, banks, and other financial institutions — eliminating the need for physical movement of paper share certificates in most secondary market transactions. DTC settles the vast majority of US securities transactions on a T+1 basis and is a subsidiary of the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC). For Indian investors on Ventura Securities with exposure to US equities, ETFs, or ADRs of Indian companies listed on US exchanges, DTC is the underlying infrastructure through which their securities holdings are held and settled — the US equivalent of India's NSDL and CDSL depository system.
