Hindustan Organic Chemicals Limited (HOCL) is a Government Company and Central Public Sector Enterprise engaged in manufacturing basic chemicals, with its sole operating unit located at Ambalamugal, Kochi, Kerala. The company’s product portfolio includes Phenol, Acetone and Hydrogen Peroxide, which cater to end-use sectors such as dyes & pigments, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals . HOCL maintains Integrated Management System certifications—ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2018 and ISO 45001:2018—and is in the process of implementing ISO 50001; all products are certified by BIS.

 

The registered office was shifted from the State of Maharashtra to the State of Kerala with effect from May 12, 2023, aligning the head office with the operating plant and supporting closer oversight by the top management. The company has additional offices in Mumbai and New Delhi to support sales and corporate coordination . HOCL serves both domestic and international customers, reflecting its mission to produce and market basic chemicals efficiently and economically .

 

A major milestone in recent years has been the government-approved restructuring plan. Under this plan, the Rasayani Unit was closed and disposal of plant and equipment undertaken; sale of unencumbered land at Rasayani and Panvel is in progress. The Kochi Phenol plant remains operational and has ramped up utilisation following the restructuring . As of FY 2022-23, installed capacities stood at 40,000 MT for Phenol, 24,640 MT for Acetone and 10,450 MT for Hydrogen Peroxide . HOCL has 1 subsidiary.
