Summary:
Adani Group stocks rallied after Adani Airports raised ₹9,825 crore from global and domestic investors including BlackRock, Temasek and Premji Invest. Adani Enterprises gained over 6%, while Adani Ports, Adani Power and Adani Green Energy also advanced sharply.
Shares of Adani Group companies gained sharply on Wednesday, September 9, after Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, entered into binding agreements to raise ₹9,825 crore through a primary equity capital infusion from a consortium of leading domestic and global investors.
The investors include Alpha Wave Global, Premji Invest, Temasek and funds managed by BlackRock. The transaction values AAHL at a pre-money equity valuation of nearly $18 billion and will result in the investors collectively holding approximately 5.54% in the airport operator after completion of all three investment tranches. The final tranche is expected to be completed by July 2027.
The transaction involves the issuance of new equity shares by AAHL rather than a sale of existing shares by Adani Enterprises. The company currently owns 100% of AAHL.
Why Adani Stocks Surged After the Fundraise
The fundraise was viewed positively by investors as it brings long-duration institutional capital into Adani's airport business and provides additional financial resources for expansion. The participation of BlackRock, Temasek, Premji Invest and Alpha Wave also represents significant institutional interest in AAHL's growth prospects.
AAHL operates eight airports in India and is the country's largest private-sector airport operator. In FY26, it handled nearly 23% of India's passenger traffic and 29% of its air cargo. Its portfolio includes airports in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, along with the Navi Mumbai airport project.
Adani Enterprises shares gained nearly 4% in morning trade and were up 3.6% at ₹3,060 around 10:00 am, even as the Nifty 50 declined 155 points to 23,479.85 and the Sensex fell 607 points to 74,970.38. Adani Enterprises has gained more than 35% so far in 2026.
Adani Group Stocks Gain
The positive sentiment extended across the group. Adani Enterprises rose 6.3% to an intraday high of ₹3,142, while Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone gained 3% to ₹1,763. Adani Power advanced 3% to ₹214.80 and Adani Green Energy rose 4% to ₹1,339.70.
Adani Energy Solutions gained 2.3% to ₹1,440, Adani Total Gas rose 2.5% to ₹624.40, while Ambuja Cements and ACC advanced 1% to ₹400.80 and ₹1,272, respectively.
MSCI Inflows Add to Positive Sentiment
The rally was also supported by expected passive fund inflows following changes in MSCI weightages. Last week, reports indicated that Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports could receive inflows of around $202 million and $77 million, respectively, while Adani Energy Solutions could see approximately $310 million of inflows.
MSCI also increased the weightages of Eternal, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports & SEZ, JSW Energy, Adani Power, Swiggy and GMR Airports in its August 2026 review, potentially prompting buying by exchange-traded and passive funds tracking the index.
Earlier Concerns Gradually Ease
Earlier concerns surrounding the Adani Group following the 2023 short-seller episode and subsequent US regulatory developments have gradually eased. In May, an assessment of four listed Adani companies noted that several global funds had remained underweight or avoided the group pending greater clarity on US-related developments, despite strong operational execution.
The latest airport fundraise, backed by prominent global and domestic institutional investors, therefore provides an additional positive signal for the group's access to capital and long-term growth ambitions.
