On Thursday, September 25, Indian equity benchmark indices closed in the red, extending losses for the 5th consecutive day.
At the closing bell, the Nifty 50 ended down by 166 points, or 0.66%, at 24,890.85, marking its first close below the 24,900 mark since September 10, 2025. Over the past five trading sessions, the index has recorded a loss of over 2%, slipping below its 50-EMA. The Sensex also dropped by 555.95 points, or 0.68%, to 81,159.68, as persistent selling by FIIs has made investors cautious.
On Wednesday, foreign portfolio investors sold ₹2,425.75 crore worth of equities, taking net September outflows to ₹19,458.68 crore.
In terms of sectoral performance, all key indices ended in the red, except for Nifty Metal, which surged by 0.22%. Meanwhile, Nifty Realty and Nifty IT were the top losers. The Nifty IT index extended its losses for the fifth consecutive session, while the Nifty Realty index dropped over 4% in the last two trading sessions.
The broader indices, the Nifty Midcap and Small-cap, extended losses for the fourth straight day.

The broader market indices ended in the red on Thursday. The Mid-cap 100 index ended down by 0.64%, and the Small-cap 100 closed down by 0.57%, extending losses for the fourth straight day.
As of September 25, 2025, the market breadth was in favour of declining stocks. Out of 3,125 stocks traded on the NSE, 912 advanced, 2,124 declined, and 89 remained unchanged.
A total of 53 stocks touched their 52-week highs, while 77 hit their 52-week lows. Additionally, 86 stocks were locked in their upper circuits, whereas 71 stocks were in lower circuits.
