Nifty Crosses 25,500, Sensex Soars 1,000 Points, Bank Nifty Hits New Record High

On Thursday, June 26, Indian benchmark indices closed the session in the green, extending their rally for the third consecutive session.

The Nifty 50 index surged by over 300 points to close above 25,500. The Nifty 50 marked its best closing of CY2025. Meanwhile, the Sensex jumped by 1,000 points, mirroring the Nifty 50’s performance. The Nifty 50 was lifted by heavyweight stocks like HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel.

At the closing bell, the Nifty 50 climbed 304.25 points, or 1.21%, to end at 25,549.00. The Sensex surged by 1,000.36 points, or 1.21%, to close at 83,755.87.

The Bank Nifty rose by 585.55 points to hit a fresh record high of 57,206.70. 

Out of the 11 key sectoral indices, only 3 ended in negative territory. Meanwhile, broader indices like Smallcaps and Midcaps also closed in the green, however, they underperformed the frontline gauge. 

Stock-Specific Highlights

Among individual stocks,

  • Jio Financial Services shares surged 3% to a high of ₹312.90 after the company infused capital into its payments bank arm.
  • Deepak Builders rose over 3.9% after securing a ₹142 crore mall project in Haryana.
  • HDFC Bank hit a record high with a gain of 1.9% and the stock has managed to outperform its peer- ICICI Bank in CY2025, so far.

Nifty Metal- Top Gainer of the Day

Talking about the sectoral indices, the Nifty Metal index surged by 2.31% on Thursday, with Adani Enterprises being the top contributor, gaining 2.09%. The Nifty Financial Services index rose by 1.53%, driven by the Bajaj twins, as Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv advanced by 2.53% and 2.08%, respectively. 

Nifty 50: Top Pullers and Draggers of the Day

The key drivers of the index gains were:

  • HDFC Bank: +51.24 points 
  • Bharti Airtel: +33.04 points 
  • Reliance:  +27.12 points 

On the other hand, these stocks weighed on the index:

  • SBIN: -3.23 points 
  • TECHM: -2.63 points 
  • M&M: -2.15 points 

Broader Markets Positive

The broader market indices ended in green, with the Mid-cap 100 index soared by 0.59% and the Small-cap 100 index jumped 0.42%.  

Market Breadth

As of June 26, 2025, the Indian stock market witnessed positive market breadth. On NSE, 1,391 stocks ended in green, while 1,105 stocks ended in the red.
