Nifty Falls Below 25,000; Ends 6-Day Winning Streak, Market Breadth Turns Negative
On June 12, the Indian equity benchmark indices closed in the red. The Nifty 50 index ended its 6-days winning streak, recording the highest intraday fall in the last month.
After opening in positive territory, the indices remain weak. After midday, benchmark indices lost momentum and gave up.
At the closing bell, the Nifty 50 ended down by 253.20 points or 1.01%, at 24,888.20. The Sensex tanked by 823.16 points or 1% to 81,691.98. The decline in Indian equity benchmark indices was due to lingering uncertainty around the U.S.-China trade deal, and mounting geopolitical tensions in the Middle East dented risk appetite.
Indian stock markets extended their losses following the crash of an Air India flight carrying 242 passengers shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, located in eastern Gujarat. Shares of airline companies were among the worst hit, with Interglobe Aviation (IndiGo) falling 2.7% and SpiceJet declining 1.8% during the session.
All 11 key sectoral indices ended in negative territory. Losses were seen in the broader markets with the Nifty Mid-cap and Nifty Small-cap indices closing in dip red.

The broader market indices ended in red, with the Mid-cap 100 index declining by 1.60% and the Small-cap 100 index tumbling by 1.78%. The Nifty Small-Cap Index recorded the highest intraday fall in the last month.
As of June 12, 2025, the Indian stock market witnessed negative market breadth. Out of 2,979 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,783 advanced, 2,112 declined, and 74 remained unchanged.
A total of 56 stocks touched their 52-week highs, while 17 hit their 52-week lows. Additionally, 92 stocks were locked in their upper circuits, whereas 41 stocks were in lower circuits.
