What is a Demat ID?

A Demat ID, or Demat account number, is a unique identifier assigned to investors to manage their dematerialised securities electronically. It is used for trading, transferring, and monitoring investments within a Demat account. The number's format varies by depository; NSDL accounts begin with 'IN' followed by a 14-digit number, while CDSL accounts are a 16-digit numeric code.
