Share

Ola Electric Mobility Limited, India’s largest electric vehicle (EV) company in the auto sector, has officially entered the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market with the launch of its first residential BESS solution, Ola Shakti.

This launch marks the company’s strategic expansion beyond automotive operations into the energy storage domain, aiming to transform how Indian households, farms, and businesses access and manage electricity.

Ola Shakti Marks Strategic Entry into India’s Expanding Energy Storage Market

Ola’s entry comes at a pivotal time in India’s BESS market, which is currently valued at ₹1 Lakh Crore and is projected to grow to over ₹3 Lakh Crore by 2030. Bhavish Aggarwal, CMD of Ola Electric, emphasized the significance of this move, stating, “India doesn't face energy shortage; it faces an energy storage opportunity.” He highlighted that Ola Shakti enables energy independence using the company’s proprietary cell technology and nationwide distribution network.

The company expects its annual Gigafactory consumption for BESS to scale up to 5 GWh in the next few years, potentially surpassing its automotive battery usage. The launch is seen as the first step toward larger-scale deployments, extending from residential applications to grid-level energy solutions.

Indigenous Technology and Manufacturing

Ola Shakti is India’s first fully domestic residential BESS solution, designed, engineered, and manufactured in-house. It leverages Ola’s 4680 Bharat Cells and Gigafactory infrastructure, allowing rapid scale-up without additional Capex or R&D. The system uses highly durable automotive-grade battery packs, benefiting from Ola’s vertically integrated manufacturing model at the Ola Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu.

Product Features and Performance

Ola Shakti is designed to offer portable, on-demand energy management. Its modular construction allows multi-directional stacking and easy scalability, while its compact design simplifies home installation and maintenance. Key performance and safety features include:
