Jupiter Wagons Ltd. (JWL) has announced winning an order worth ₹242.41 crore from GATX India Private Limited, the country’s largest private railcar lessor, for manufacturing and supplying 583 specialised wagons. Here are the details:
Jupiter Wagons Ltd. (JWL) has secured a significant order valued at ₹242.41 crore from GATX India Private Limited, the largest private railcar lessor in the country. This order, announced on August 11, 2025, is for the manufacturing and supply of 583 specialised wagons.
The contract specifically includes a combination of BLSS, ACT2, and BOXNHL wagons, along with BVCM wagons. These wagons are purpose-built for the efficient transport of bulk commodities, passenger vehicles (SUVs), and containerised freight. They are engineered for high-capacity, long-distance operations and are designed to align with the evolving requirements of India’s freight logistics infrastructure. Their robust design and operational efficiency are expected to significantly enhance cargo handling capabilities for GATX and its clients.
The specialised wagon types detailed in the contract include the BLSS (Container Carrier Wagon), which is designed for carrying ISO containers, offering a high axle load capacity and an improved payload-to-tare ratio. These wagons facilitate efficient transport, making them suitable for intermodal logistics and improving port-to-hinterland connectivity. Another type is the ACT2 (Bi-level SUV Carrier), engineered for the secure and efficient transport of finished automobiles, particularly SUVs.
Each ACT2 wagon can accommodate up to 10 SUVs, and its specialised design ensures minimal handling, better vehicle protection, and faster loading/unloading, which aligns with the increasing demand for SUVs across the country. Additionally, the order includes BOXNHL (High-Capacity Open Wagon), commonly used for transporting bulk commodities such as coal and iron ore. These open-top wagons are designed for tippler unloading and boast a payload capacity exceeding 70 tonnes, offering improved speed potential and enhanced brake systems, making them suitable for heavy-haul freight corridors.
As of March 2025, the company has a total order book of ₹ 6,303.6 Crore.
On Monday, Jupiter Wagons share price jumped to the day's high of ₹338.15 per share, surging by 1.87%. As of 11:33 am IST, the stock price was trading at ₹335.05 per share, up by 1.01%.
