On Thursday, October 30, Indian equity benchmark indices ended 0.7% lower, dragged by HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries. The indices dropped after the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates as expected but raised doubts over further rate reductions in 2025.

At the close, the Nifty 50 declined by 176.05 points, or 0.68%, to settle at 25,877.85, while the Sensex slipped 368.98 points, or 0.70%, ending at 84,404.46. India’s volatility index, India VIX, remained steady just above the 12 level. 

On the sectoral front, 2 out of 11 sectors closed in positive territory. The Nifty Pharma index shed 0.59%, dragged by a 3.89% drop in Dr. Reddy’s after its weight-loss drug faced a regulatory setback in Canada.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump says he made a deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping on rare-earth metals and tariffs, signalling a trade truce between the world's two largest economies

Broader markets also declined marginally following benchmark indices, with both Nifty Midcap and Smallcap ended in neagtive territory.

Nifty Energy - Top Gaining Sector

The Nifty Energy index climbed 0.12%, extending gains for the second consecutive day. Following energy stocks, the Nifty Realty index also gained 0.04%, emerging as the second gainer among sectoral indices. In contrast, the Nifty Financial Services index declined 0.77% recording the biggest loss of October month.

Broader Markets Ended Negative

The broader market indices closed in negative territory. The Mid-cap 100 index declined by 0.09% and the Small-cap 100 ended marginally down by 0.10%. 

Market Breadth

As of October 30, 2025, the market breadth was in favour of declining stocks. Out of 3,178 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,321 advanced, 1,748 declined, and 109 remained unchanged.
